Reversi, the disc-flipping game of trapping lines of the opponent's pieces, began in Victorian England in the 1880s and was revived and refined in Japan in the 1970s.

How it is played

Two players place double-sided discs on an eight-by-eight board; a disc must be placed so that it traps one or more enemy discs in a straight line, which then flip to the mover's colour. When the board is full the player with more discs wins.

Heritage note

Origins

Usually placed in the era of Crossroads and Golden Ages (about 500 to 1500), although its exact origins are uncertain, within the cultural world of Celtic and Atlantic Europe.
