Bulgarian Asymmetric Rhythm

Stitch 7/8 and 11/8 dance rhythms as a village horo grows.

About this game

A rhythm game inspired by the odd-meter dance music of Bulgaria. A needle runs along an embroidered sash, one pulse at a time, with the pulses gathered in groups of two and three. Tap the drum, clap and step pads to stitch each cell; play cleanly and more dancers join the line while the band grows. Learn by echo, perform for stars, or watch the band play. Six original pieces from 5/8 to 11/8, Rules with text size to 300%, synthesised sound, no ads.

How to play

  1. Pick a piece, then Learn: the lead drummer plays a short phrase and you echo it back.
  2. A needle runs along the bar one pulse at a time. Cells are grouped in twos and threes: 2+2+3 in 7/8.
  3. Tap the red DRUM pad when the needle reaches a red disc, usually the first pulse of a group.
  4. Tap the gold CLAP pad for a clap burst and the green STEP pad for a boot print.
  5. Each cell you play is stitched into the sash: a full cross for clean timing, a gap for a miss.
  6. Play cleanly and the Flow bar fills: more dancers join the horo and the band joins in.
  7. The next bar is shown below, so you can see the grouping shift before the needle arrives.
  8. On a keyboard: Space drum, C clap, S step, P pause, H hint.
