Dame: West African Draughts
Flying kings, backward captures, bottle caps.
About this game
Dame, called Damii in Ghana, is draughts as played across West Africa. Men capture backwards, kings fly the whole diagonal, and in Damii a side down to its last piece has lost. Play the 10 by 10 board or the 8 by 8 school board against four computer levels, get hints that explain themselves, or watch the computer play both sides. A full Rules reference with diagrams is built in. Large text, reduced motion, no ads, works offline.
How to play
- On the menu pick the board, the computer level and your side, then tap Play.
- Tap one of your pieces: it lifts and its legal squares glow. Tap a glowing square to move.
- Capture is compulsory. Pieces that can capture glow, and only they can be picked up.
- Men capture backwards too. You may choose any capture, but you must finish the chain you start.
- For a chain of jumps tap each landing square. The piece plays on by itself when only one chain is left.
- Reach the far row to crown a king. A king flies any distance and lands anywhere behind the piece it takes.
- In Damii a side left with one piece has lost. Win by capturing everything or leaving no legal move.
- Hint shows a good move and why. Take back undoes your last move. Watch and Learn plays both sides.
