Fox and Geese

One fox. A flock of geese. A cross of frost.

About this game

Fox and Geese is the classic hunt game, played on a cross of 33 points across Europe for centuries. One fox faces thirteen geese: the geese step forward or sideways and never back, and try to close the fox in; the fox slips between them and jumps any goose left alone, chaining jumps in one turn. Learn in nine hands-on lessons, play either side against four computer levels or a friend on one phone, choose a flock of 7 to 17 geese, and solve a new puzzle every day. Hand-painted fox and geese on a moonlit board. An in-app Rules page covers it all. No ads, works offline.

How to play

  1. New here? Tap Learn to play: nine short lessons where you make every move yourself.
  2. The geese move first. Tap a goose (its points glow), then tap where it steps: one point forward or sideways, never backward.
  3. The fox steps one point up, down, left or right, or jumps over a goose to the empty point behind it and captures it.
  4. After a jump the fox may jump again in the same turn: tap a red point to go on, or tap the fox or Stop here to end its turn.
  5. Move not allowed? The piece tries, comes back, and a message tells you why.
  6. The geese win when the fox cannot move. The fox wins when only 5 geese are left. The same position three times is a draw.
  7. Warnings mark geese the fox could take next. Hint shows a good move (3 per game). Take back undoes your last move.
  8. Choose a flock of 7 to 17 geese (13 is classic). Beat each level with each side for a star. The daily puzzle is the same for everyone.
