Noughts & Crosses

Three in a row, made deep.

About this game

The classic three-in-a-row game, made beautiful: lit bronze crosses and verdigris noughts on carved marble, with four ways to play. Classic 3x3, the Roman Terni Lapilli with sliding pieces, Misère where three in a row loses, and a 4x4 Quad board. Five opponent levels up to a solver that never slips, two players on one phone, Think with a plain-English reason, eleven lessons and Watch & Learn. No timers and no ads.

How to play

  1. Take turns with your opponent placing your mark. X always goes first. Three in a row wins.
  2. Tap an empty square to place your mark. A full board with no line is a draw.
  3. Terni Lapilli: place three pieces each, then tap a piece and a joined empty point to slide it. Diagonals count.
  4. Misère: complete three in a row and you lose. Quad: four in a row, or a 2x2 square, wins on the 4x4 board.
  5. Think shows the best move and why: this blocks a fork, this wins. Undo takes a move back.
  6. Learn teaches threats, blocks and forks in eleven short lessons. Watch & Learn plays whole games with time to think and a Pause button.
