O An Quan: Mandarin Squares
Vietnam's pebble game of sowing and capture.
About this game
The traditional Vietnamese children's game, rebuilt on a lacquered wooden board: sow stones one at a time, relay through full squares, leap an empty square to capture and win the two mandarins. Five opponent levels, two players on one phone, Think with a reason in words, six lessons and Watch & Learn. Play in English or in Vietnamese. No timers and no ads.
How to play
- Tap one of your squares that holds stones, then choose Sow left or Sow right (or swipe from the square).
- Your stones are dropped one by one. If the last one lands before a full square, pick that square up and sow on.
- If the last stone is followed by an empty square and then a full one, you capture the full one. Chains count.
- The two big mandarin stones are worth 10 points each. The game ends when both are captured; the higher total wins.
- Run out of stones and you refill your side from your winnings. Think shows the best move and why.
