Scopa

The Italian card game of the broom

About this game

Scopa is one of Italy's three major national card games, played with a 40-card Italian deck: coins, cups, swords and batons. Match a card's rank or a sum to capture it, clear the table for a scopa, and score cards, coins, sette bello and primiera. Nine hands-on lessons, free Auto Play at your own pace, four computer levels to a card-counting Maestro, four-player partnerships, and a new daily deal every day. Original hand-drawn Italian court cards, a trattoria table, and a French-suit option. No ads, no chips, score only.

How to play

  1. New here? Nine short lessons teach every move, or watch free Auto Play play a whole game at your own pace.
  2. TAP a card in your hand, then TAP a table card of the same rank to capture it.
  3. If several table cards add up to your card's rank, TAP each one to take the whole set.
  4. A matching card must always be taken alone, even when a sum is also possible.
  5. Clear the table and you score a scopa: one point, shown with a flourish (not on the round's last play).
  6. Nothing to capture? TAP your card again to lay it on the table.
  7. A round is scored on most cards, most coins, the sette bello and primiera. Play to 11 or 21.
  8. Daily deal: find the single most valuable capture. Same deal for everyone, every day.
