Shut the Box

About this game

The classic tavern dice game of England and France on a lit oak box with brass hinges and bone tiles. Roll two dice, flip down tiles that add up to the total and try to shut them all: low score wins. Classic and Tall boxes, a five-round Duel with the Innkeeper, a Daily Box, hints from an exact solver and Watch & Learn. No clock, no ads, works offline.

How to play

1. Tap the dice tray to roll two dice and add them up.
2. Tap open tiles that add up to the total. When they match, they flip down by themselves.
3. Keep rolling and shutting. If no open tiles can make the roll, the box is over.
4. The numbers on the tiles still open are your score. Lower is better, 0 is a perfect shut box.
5. Once tiles 7 and up are shut you can roll a single die instead.
6. Stuck on a choice? Hint shows the best move and your odds of shutting the box.
7. Duel the Innkeeper over five boxes with the same dice, or play the Daily Box.
8. Watch & Learn shows the solver playing whole boxes, with Pause and think time.
