Apicomplexan protozoan; severe/cerebral malaria. Liver schizogony (5–7 d) → 48 h RBC cycles → gametocytes. 249M cases/yr; 608,000 deaths (WHO 2022). PfEMP1 cytoadherence causes cerebral malaria. Treated with ACT; no fully protective vaccine.
