Aldosterone

Principal mineralocorticoid steroid (zona glomerulosa) that activates MR to upregulate ENaC/Na⁺-K⁺-ATPase, mediating renal Na⁺ retention and K⁺ excretion. Excess aldosterone drives hypertension, cardiac fibrosis, hypokalemia in HF, CKD, and Conn's syndrome.

Also known as: mineralocorticoid, MR agonist, RAAS effector, 11β,21-dihydroxy-3,20-dioxopregn-4-en-18-al
