Ubiquitous saprophytic mould; conidia (2–3 µm) inhaled by all humans daily. Primary human pathogen via airways. Causes allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, aspergilloma, and invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (mortality 40–90%) in neutropenic or corticosteroid-treated hosts.
