Semisynthetic rifamycin antibiotic and potent CYP3A4/P-gp inducer. Bactericidal against dividing and dormant mycobacteria via rpoB RNA polymerase inhibition. Backbone of first-line TB (HRZE); also used in leprosy, meningococcal prophylaxis, and MRSA biofilm.
