PlainMap is an offline-first crisis-navigation app for iOS and Android. It's a real map of the help around you — hospitals, urgent care, pharmacies, shelters, water points, food banks, police and fire stations, and more — built from real OpenStreetMap community data, with a downloadable offline vector map, live weather and hazard alerts, an Emergency Mode with one-tap local-emergency calling, and an on-device-only Medical ID. It works with no signal, has no account, and is currently in final pre-launch preparation for both the App Store and Google Play.

Yes — that's the whole point. Once a region's facility data and (optionally) its offline map are downloaded, every locator category, the offline vector map, Emergency Mode, Safety Education articles, and first-aid basics all work with the network fully off. There is no feature on the critical path that requires connectivity.
From OpenStreetMap, a real, open, community-maintained map (the same kind of source many navigation apps rely on), licensed under the Open Database License. Every facility is honestly labeled "verified" or "crowd-reported" — PlainMap never fabricates or invents facility data.
Yes. PlainMap has no account, runs no company servers, and performs no analytics or tracking. Your Medical ID, saved Pins, and location are used entirely on-device and never transmitted. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Nothing about you. Background sync is off by default and entirely your choice (with a Wi-Fi-only option) in Settings. When enabled, it only ever fetches small, versioned public data files to keep your region's facility data current — it never uploads your location, Medical ID, Pins, or any other information.
No. PlainMap helps you find real, nearby help and provides general safety information, but it does not replace official emergency services or professional medical care. In an emergency, always call your local emergency number first — Emergency Mode's one-tap call button is designed to help you do exactly that quickly.
One tap dials your region's real local emergency number (911, 999, 112, etc., based on your device region). It shows the genuinely nearest hospital only when your device has a real GPS fix — it never guesses. You can also send an "I'm Safe" text (pre-filled with your coordinates) to the emergency contact saved in your Medical ID, and a real Low-Battery Mode toggle that actually reduces GPS polling to conserve power.
The Medical ID is an optional place to store allergies, conditions, medications, blood type, and an emergency contact so they're available in Emergency Mode and on a printable wallet card. It stays entirely on your device, is never uploaded, and can be edited, printed, or deleted at any time.
Pick a hazard type — hurricane, flood, wildfire, earthquake, tornado, winter storm, or heat wave — and PlainMap filters to just the facility categories that matter for it, and badges any hazard that currently has a live NWS alert for your area.
PlainMap is available in English, Español, and 简体中文, with translation covering every screen, including safety-critical content like first-aid instructions and the full Safety Education article library.
Yes. Downloaded offline map regions can genuinely be removed from Settings at any time to reclaim storage, and re-downloaded again later — your facility data and saved Pins are untouched either way.
PlainMap is free. There are no subscriptions, no paywalls, and no ads.
Try these steps:
1. Force-close and reopen the app.
2. Restart your device.
3. Make sure you are running the latest version once PlainMap is available on the App Store or Google Play.
