PlainSpeak is provided by EqualInformation, LLC. PlainSpeak is an offline-first speech, text, and camera translation app — instant, private translation that works with zero connectivity, because a language barrier hits hardest exactly where connectivity and money are scarcest.

This Privacy Policy applies to the PlainSpeak app (iOS bundle identifier: com.equalinformation.plainspeak.app; Android package name: com.equalinformation.plainspeak.app). PlainSpeak is published on Google Play; the App Store version is currently in review.
PlainSpeak is designed to keep everything on your device. Depending on how you use the app, PlainSpeak may store the following locally, never transmitting it:
PlainSpeak does not collect or transmit any of this data. Speech and text you translate are processed entirely on-device and are never sent to a server.

PlainSpeak is 100% on-device. It does not collect, transmit, or store any user data on servers. There is no account required, no servers, no cloud sync, and no user tracking. Speech translation, text translation, camera translation, and every emergency, medical, legal-rights, and accessibility feature work fully offline, with no network on any critical path.
PlainSpeak does not use any analytics SDKs, crash reporters, advertising SDKs, or tracking tools, on any tier — free or PlainSpeak Pro. An advertising SDK would be a tracker living next to a promise that nothing you say leaves your phone, so PlainSpeak carries no ads at all.
PlainSpeak flags low-confidence translations rather than presenting them as certain, particularly for medical, legal, and emergency phrases. Machine translation, even fully on-device, can be imperfect. PlainSpeak is a communication aid, not a substitute for a professional human interpreter in high-stakes medical, legal, or emergency situations. In an emergency, always contact local emergency services directly.
PlainSpeak requests as few permissions as possible:
PlainSpeak does not require location, contacts, or internet access for its core translation functionality.
PlainSpeak's optional medical alert phrases (allergies, medications, conditions, blood type) and emergency & legal-rights phrase packs are stored entirely on-device and are always free to use, permanently. PlainSpeak does not read, store, or transmit any information from your device's OS-native medical ID or health app; any medical alert data you enter into PlainSpeak is separate and stays local to the app.
PlainSpeak offers an optional PlainSpeak Pro subscription (monthly, annual, or lifetime) that unlocks additional convenience features such as live camera overlay translation and unlimited offline language packs. Free-tier features — including all emergency, medical alert, legal-rights, and accessibility features — are never gated behind a subscription. Subscription purchases are processed entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play billing; PlainSpeak and EqualInformation, LLC never receive or store your payment card details. Apple's and Google's own privacy policies govern the payment transaction itself.
EqualInformation, LLC does not sell personal or sensitive user data. We do not share users' data with data brokers or for advertising purposes. The company does not intentionally transmit personal or sensitive PlainSpeak user data to its own servers or unrelated third parties.
You can edit, export, or delete your saved phrases, medical alert information, and conversation transcript at any time from within the app. Uninstalling PlainSpeak removes all locally stored data from your device, including saved phrases, downloaded language packs, and settings.
Locally stored data is protected using platform protections (app sandboxing and, where applicable, platform-provided encrypted storage) as part of PlainSpeak's local-first design. However, no method of storage is completely secure, and the company cannot guarantee absolute security.
PlainSpeak is designed to provide translation for the general public. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe information has been provided inappropriately, please contact the company.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version on this page and revise the Effective Date above.
