Privacy Policy — PlainCrisis

Last updated: September 4, 2026 · Prepared ahead of PlainCrisis's public release

If you are thinking about suicide or self-harm, or someone's safety is at immediate risk: call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the US), call your local emergency number, or go to the nearest emergency room right now. PlainCrisis is a self-help tool, not an emergency service, and it is not staffed by anyone who can respond to you in real time.

1 Who We Are

PlainCrisis is provided by EqualInformation, LLC. PlainCrisis is a private, on-device crisis-support app — a crisis-hotline directory, a guided safety-plan builder, grounding and coping tools, and journaling — built so that nothing you enter needs to leave your device.

2 Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the PlainCrisis app (iOS bundle identifier: com.equalinformation.plaincrisis.app; Android package name: com.equalinformation.plaincrisis.app), to be made available on the App Store and Google Play.

3 The Short Version

PlainCrisis does not have an account system, does not show ads, and does not run any analytics or crash-reporting software. Everything you enter into the app — your safety plan, journal, trusted contacts, and settings — stays on your device. The only thing the app ever sends over the network, and only if you turn it on, is a one-way download of the app's own built-in hotline directory and reference content. It never uploads anything you have typed, recorded, or saved.

4 Information We Do Not Collect

5 Information Stored Only on Your Device

Depending on which features you choose to use, PlainCrisis stores the following information locally, on your device only:

None of this information is transmitted to us, to any server, or to any third party. It is stored in the app's private, on-device storage, encrypted at rest on both platforms.

6 The One Network Feature: Optional Content-Pack Refresh

PlainCrisis can, if you turn it on in Settings, periodically download an updated copy of the app's own bundled reference content — the crisis-hotline directory and the app's category/feature reference text. This feature is:

No other feature in the app makes a network request.

7 Permissions We Request, and Why

If a permission is denied or later revoked, the corresponding optional feature simply becomes unavailable — the core crisis-support features of the app do not require any of these permissions.

8 Data Security

On-device data is encrypted at rest on both platforms. This is in addition to your device's own lock-screen protection, so we also recommend using a device passcode, PIN, or biometric lock for the strongest protection of the information stored in the app.

9 Exporting and Sharing Your Data

Some features let you export or share your own data — for example, exporting your safety plan or journal as a PDF, or transferring your app data to a new device via a local encrypted file. These exports are entirely user-initiated: you choose the destination (such as Messages, Email, AirDrop/Nearby Share, or a file you save yourself). PlainCrisis is not a party to that transfer, does not see it, and does not retain a copy of it.

10 Deleting Your Data

Settings → Delete everything immediately and permanently erases all of your data from the app's local storage on your device. Because your data was never stored anywhere else, this deletion is instant and complete — there is no server-side copy to separately request the deletion of. Uninstalling the app also removes its on-device data, per standard iOS and Android behavior.

11 Subscriptions and Payment Information

If you purchase the optional Pro subscription, that purchase is handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store billing systems. PlainCrisis does not process, see, or store your payment card details — that information is held only by Apple or Google per their own privacy policies. The crisis-critical core of the app — immediate crisis support, the safety-plan builder, grounding and coping tools, means-restriction guidance, and the hotline directory — is free permanently and is never gated behind Pro.

12 Crisis-Line and Hotline Directory Accuracy

The app includes a directory of crisis lines, hotlines, and related support resources, compiled from publicly available sources and refreshed periodically through the optional content update described above. We do not operate, verify in real time, or guarantee the continued accuracy, availability, or operating hours of any third-party hotline or organization listed in the app. Phone numbers, text lines, and hours of operation can change without notice. If a listed number does not work, or if you have any doubt, contact your local emergency number or search for current crisis resources for your region.

13 Sharing and Sale of Data

EqualInformation, LLC does not sell personal or sensitive user data. We do not share users' data with data brokers or for advertising purposes. The company does not intentionally transmit personal or sensitive PlainCrisis user data to its own servers or unrelated third parties.

14 Children's Privacy

PlainCrisis is not specifically directed at children. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe information has been provided inappropriately, please contact us.

15 Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version on this page and revise the "Last updated" date above.
