This Privacy Policy applies to the PlainLaw app (iOS bundle identifier: com.equalinformation.plainlaw.app; Android package name: com.plainlaw.app). PlainLaw is available on iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play).
PlainLaw is a legal education and reference app serving both the general public and legal professionals. Depending on how you use the app, PlainLaw may store information on your device, including:

PlainLaw is designed with a local-first architecture. The vast majority of content is bundled within the app and works completely offline. PlainLaw does not require an account, login, or registration. There is no cloud sync of personal data, and no user profiles are created on remote servers.
PlainLaw Pro users may optionally connect to external legal data sources to fetch publicly available legal information (e.g., congressional records, federal regulations, court opinions from government APIs). When external sources are configured:
PlainLaw does not use any analytics SDKs, crash reporters, or tracking tools. No data is sent to third-party analytics services. No advertising SDKs are included.
PlainLaw may use Apple App Store In-App Purchase (on iOS) or Google Play Billing (on Android) for Premium (one-time purchase) and Pro (annual subscription) functionality. Apple or Google may process payment and transaction information under their own respective policies. PlainLaw may receive limited purchase-status or product information needed to unlock purchased content on your device. EqualInformation, LLC does not receive your full payment card number through PlainLaw.
All legal content in PlainLaw is for educational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice. PlainLaw is not a law firm, does not provide legal services, and no attorney-client relationship is created by using the app. Content covers multiple jurisdictions worldwide but may not reflect the most current state of the law. Users should consult a licensed attorney for specific legal problems.
PlainLaw may use your device's locale setting or, with your permission, approximate location to auto-detect your jurisdiction and display relevant legal content. This information is processed entirely on your device and is not transmitted to any server. You can manually select or pin any jurisdiction at any time.

EqualInformation, LLC does not sell personal or sensitive user data. We do not share users' data with data brokers or for advertising purposes. The company does not intentionally transmit personal or sensitive PlainLaw user data to its own servers or unrelated third parties.
Purchase-related state may be restorable through App Store or Google Play for eligible purchases. Uninstalling PlainLaw removes all locally stored data from your device, including bookmarks, cached content, evidence organizer data, and preferences.
PlainLaw relies on iOS and Android platform protections and app sandboxing as part of its local-first design. User-provided credentials for external data sources are stored in the platform's secure keychain (iOS) or keystore (Android). However, no method of storage or electronic transmission is completely secure, and the company cannot guarantee absolute security.
You may choose to use the free tier, purchase Premium, or subscribe to Pro. You may configure or disable external data source connections at any time. You may change your jurisdiction and language preferences at any time. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data from your device.
PlainLaw is not intended for or directed to children under 13. PlainLaw does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information inappropriately, please contact the company.
PlainLaw serves users worldwide with jurisdiction-specific legal content. Regardless of your location, your data remains on your device. No personal data is transferred across borders by PlainLaw. The privacy protections described in this policy apply equally to all users regardless of jurisdiction.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version on this page and revise the Effective Date above.
