Help us put a rigorously sourced reference on how the world's money works into everyone's pocket — no accounts, no backend, no bank-linking required for the basics.
How the world's money actually works, cited and offline — Global Monetary Systems turns central banking, exchange-rate regimes, and monetary history into a rigorously sourced, private, offline reference anyone can read, from a first-time learner to a graduate student to a policymaker.
Global Monetary Systems is a reference app for iOS and Android, built and maintained by EqualInformation, LLC as the macro companion to our PlainMoney app. It covers 359 sourced pages on current mechanics (exchange-rate regimes, monetary policy tools, cross-border payments, central bank profiles), the history of every monetary system that has existed, and the design space for future ones — each claim traced to the IMF, World Bank, BIS, a central bank, or peer-reviewed research, never to an invented number.
Global Monetary Systems never asks for an account, never links to your bank, and explains rather than advises — it never tells you what to buy, sell, or invest in. The Essentials layer of every page is free for everyone, permanently; an optional Pro subscription unlocks the deeper Applied and Research layers for readers who want the full mechanism, the historical record, or the underlying formal model. Your support helps us keep expanding the app's coverage, keep the live-data connections to official sources current, and keep every page working entirely offline.
The global monetary system touches every person's life — inflation, interest rates, exchange-rate moves, capital controls, currency crises, sanctions — yet a rigorous, sourced explanation of how it actually works is normally scattered across textbooks, paywalled research, and institutional reports few people ever read. Individuals and the global system shape each other bidirectionally: how people save, spend, and move money in aggregate moves the system, and the system's decisions reach directly into everyone's wallet.
Global Monetary Systems exists to make that whole machine legible to everyone at once — the general public, working professionals and policymakers, and graduate students and faculty — from the same sourced pages, at three depth layers instead of three different products.
The app explains, it never advises. Every page shows the mechanism, the historical record, or the model — what a rule actually says, what has documentedly followed a given kind of event — and leaves interpretation and decisions to the reader, because that's exactly where they belong.
No account, no backend, no bank-linking, no ads, no analytics. Every citation traces to a real, named, tappable source.
Disclaimer: Global Monetary Systems is an independent educational reference tool, not a government app or entity, and not a substitute for professional financial, tax, or legal advice. It explains how the monetary system works; it doesn't tell you what to do with your money.
