Privacy Policy — PlainWeather

Effective Date: August 19, 2026

1 Who We Are

PlainWeather is provided by EqualInformation, LLC. PlainWeather is a hyperlocal, offline-capable weather-safety app — severe-weather action guides, safety calculators, and go/no-go checklists that work fully offline, because the moments they matter most are often the moments connectivity is gone.

2 Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the PlainWeather app (iOS bundle identifier: com.equalinformation.plainweather.app; Android package name: com.equalinformation.plainweather.app) and to the companion PlainWeather website. PlainWeather is published on Google Play; the App Store version is currently in review.

3 Information PlainWeather May Store or Use

PlainWeather is designed offline-first: its safety-critical guides, calculators, and checklists require no account and no server round-trip to function. Depending on how you use the app, PlainWeather may store or use the following:

PlainWeather does not collect or transmit any of this information to us. All of it remains on your device unless you explicitly choose to share it (for example, printing or texting the safety card to a household member).

4 How We Use Information

PlainWeather uses locally stored or on-device information to:

5 Offline-First Design, With One Optional Live Layer

PlainWeather's safety-critical layer — every hazard action guide, calculator, and go/no-go checklist — works fully offline with no network on any critical path. The one optional exception is forecast caching: when you have connectivity, PlainWeather fetches a current forecast and stores it locally with a visible "last updated" timestamp; if you go offline, the app keeps working on that last-synced data. This live layer is never required — the safety-critical content never depends on it. There is no account, and no PlainWeather server stores your personal data.

6 No Analytics or Tracking, No Ads

PlainWeather does not use advertising SDKs and does not show ads. PlainWeather does not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs to build a profile of you or share your activity with advertisers.

7 Optional Online Features

One feature is designed to gracefully degrade with no connectivity and is never required: an offline peer-to-peer alert relay, off by default, that uses Bluetooth/Wi-Fi (Apple MultipeerConnectivity) to pass a received severe-weather alert to nearby PlainWeather users with no internet and no server involved. It only activates if you explicitly turn it on in Settings.

8 Permissions

PlainWeather requests as few permissions as possible:

PlainWeather does not require camera, contacts, or microphone access for its functionality.

9 Weather and Safety Content Disclaimer

PlainWeather provides general severe-weather safety guidance and is not a substitute for official alerts issued by your local meteorological or emergency-management authority. Always follow official evacuation orders and warnings, and call your local emergency services in a life-threatening situation. Forecast data, once cached, may become outdated if you remain offline; PlainWeather always shows you the "last updated" timestamp so you know how current your information is.

10 Sharing and Sale of Data

EqualInformation, LLC does not sell personal or sensitive user data. We do not share users' data with data brokers or for advertising purposes. The company does not intentionally transmit personal PlainWeather user data to its own servers or unrelated third parties, other than the minimal, non-personal request needed to fetch a forecast for your approximate area from a weather-data provider.

11 Data Retention and Deletion

You can edit or delete your family emergency plan, saved locations, and profile settings at any time from within the app. Uninstalling PlainWeather removes all locally stored data from your device, including cached forecasts, your family plan, and any Pro entitlement cache (your purchase itself remains recorded with Apple/Google and can be restored on reinstall).

12 Security

PlainWeather stores data locally using platform protections and app sandboxing as part of its offline-first design. However, no method of storage is completely secure, and the company cannot guarantee absolute security.

13 Children's Privacy

PlainWeather includes an optional Kids' weather-safety mode intended to be used by or with a parent or guardian's device. PlainWeather does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and Kids' mode changes only content presentation — it does not collect any additional personal information. If you believe information has been provided inappropriately, please contact the company.

14 Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version on this page and revise the Effective Date above.
