1 Who We Are

PlainMap is provided by EqualInformation, LLC. PlainMap is an offline-first crisis-navigation app — a real map of the help around you (hospitals, shelters, water points, and more) that keeps working with no signal, because that is exactly when you need it most.

2 Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the PlainMap app (iOS bundle identifier: com.equalinformation.plainmap.app; Android package name: com.equalinformation.plainmap.app), available on the App Store and Google Play.

3 Information PlainMap May Store

PlainMap is designed to keep everything on your device. Depending on how you use the app, PlainMap may store the following locally, never transmitting it:

• Your optional Medical ID (allergies, conditions, medications, blood type, and emergency contact)
• Pins you save (custom locations, notes, and an optional "home base")
• App settings (language, background-sync and Wi-Fi-only preferences, App Lock on/off, low-battery mode)
• The downloaded facility database and offline map tiles for the regions you choose
• Cached weather/hazard-alert data for your area, refreshed only when you have a connection

PlainMap does not collect or transmit any of this data. All information remains on your device.

4 How We Use Information

PlainMap uses locally stored information to:

• Sort nearby facilities by distance and show directions using your device's own location
• Display your Medical ID and emergency contact in Emergency Mode, and on a printable card
• Place a call to your region's local emergency number, or pre-fill an "I'm Safe" text to your emergency contact, through your phone's own dialer/messaging app
• Show your saved Pins and previously downloaded map regions
• Apply your language, sync, and App Lock preferences

5 Local-First, Offline Design

PlainMap is on-device first. There is no account, and it does not run its own servers. Every facility, the offline vector map, the Safety Education articles, first-aid basics, and Emergency Mode all work fully offline once a region's data pack is on your device — there is no feature on the critical path that requires connectivity.

6 Optional Background Sync

PlainMap can periodically check for fresher facility data — this is off by default, entirely your choice, and configurable (including a Wi-Fi-only option) in Settings. When enabled, the app fetches only small, versioned, publicly hosted static data files (no account, no company-run backend). This sync request does not send any information about you, your location, or your device — it only downloads public data.

7 No Analytics or Tracking

PlainMap does not use any analytics SDKs, crash reporters, advertising SDKs, or tracking tools. No data is sent to third-party analytics services.

8 Facility Data and Safety Disclaimer

Facility information (hospitals, shelters, and other locations) comes from OpenStreetMap community contributors under the Open Database License (ODbL), and each entry is honestly labeled as "verified" or "crowd-reported." Facility details, hours, and safety information can change or be inaccurate, and PlainMap does not verify every entry in real time. PlainMap provides general safety information and directions to publicly known facilities — it does not replace official emergency services, professional medical care, or your own judgment. In an emergency, always call your local emergency services first.

9 Permissions

PlainMap requests only the permissions it needs:

• Location (when in use): Used entirely on-device to sort facilities by distance, show "nearest hospital," and hand off directions to your system Maps app. Your location is never transmitted to PlainMap's own infrastructure or any third party.
• Notifications (optional): Used only for local, on-device alerts about new severe-weather/hazard information for your area, and are never used for marketing.
• Phone / messaging: Emergency Mode's "Call" and "Send I'm Safe Text" open your phone's own dialer/messaging app with the number/message pre-filled. PlainMap never places a call or sends a message without your direct action.
• Biometrics (optional): If you turn on App Lock, PlainMap uses your device's own Face ID/Touch ID/fingerprint or passcode via the operating system's standard authentication — PlainMap never sees or stores your biometric data itself.

PlainMap does not require camera, contacts, or microphone access for any of its functionality.

10 Sharing and Sale of Data

EqualInformation, LLC does not sell personal or sensitive user data. We do not share users' data with data brokers or for advertising purposes. The company does not intentionally transmit personal or sensitive PlainMap user data to its own servers or unrelated third parties.

11 Data Retention and Deletion

You can edit or delete your Medical ID and saved Pins at any time from within the app, and export a local backup (a plain JSON file through your device's own share sheet) whenever you like — nothing is ever uploaded to a cloud service on your behalf. Uninstalling PlainMap removes all locally stored data from your device, including your Medical ID, Pins, downloaded map data, and settings.

12 Security

Your Medical ID and other locally stored data benefit from standard platform app-sandboxing protections as part of PlainMap's local-first design. However, no method of storage is completely secure, and the company cannot guarantee absolute security.

13 Children's Privacy

PlainMap is designed to help the general public find nearby help and stay informed during emergencies. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe information has been provided inappropriately, please contact the company.

14 Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version on this page and revise the Effective Date above.
