Privacy Policy — PlainHygiene

Effective Date: September 4, 2026

1 Who We Are

PlainHygiene is provided by EqualInformation, LLC. PlainHygiene is a native, offline-first hygiene reference app — 1,088 sourced hygiene features across 18 modules (WHO/CDC/UNICEF/JMP-cited), plus routine-building and habit tools, entirely on your device.

2 Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the PlainHygiene app (iOS bundle identifier: com.equalinformation.plainhygiene.app; Android package name: com.equalinformation.plainhygiene.app), including its Apple Watch and Wear OS companion apps and home-screen widgets. PlainHygiene is published on the App Store and Google Play.

3 Information PlainHygiene May Store

PlainHygiene is designed to keep everything on your device. Depending on how you use the app, PlainHygiene may store the following locally, never transmitting it:

None of this is an account. There's no sign-up, no password, no user ID PlainHygiene assigns you, and nothing here is ever transmitted to PlainHygiene's developer or to any third party. Reading the app's 1,088+ hygiene guides requires none of it.

4 How We Use Information

PlainHygiene uses locally stored information to:

5 Local-First, Offline Design

PlainHygiene's core functionality — all 1,088 hygiene guides, search, and routine-building tools — is 100% on-device. It does not require an account, and it does not collect, transmit, or store your personal data on servers. The app works fully offline.

6 No Analytics or Tracking, No Ads

PlainHygiene does not use an analytics SDK, a crash-reporting SDK, or an advertising SDK. Nothing about how you use the app — which screens you open, how long you stay, what you search for — is collected, logged remotely, or transmitted. PlainHygiene does not run ads, on the free tier or the paid tier.

7 App Store and Google Play Billing

PlainHygiene offers one optional in-app purchase — PlainHygiene Pro, an auto-renewing monthly subscription — using Apple App Store In-App Purchase (on iOS) or Google Play Billing (on Android). Apple or Google processes your payment and transaction information under their own respective policies. PlainHygiene's own code never sees, requests, stores, or transmits your credit card number, billing address, or any other payment credential.

What the app keeps, locally, is a simple "subscribed or not" entitlement flag (and, on Android, a purchase token used only to re-verify that flag) so the app can show your Pro status instantly, even offline. This entitlement cache never leaves your device. Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription automatically renews unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple ID account settings or the Google Play app — PlainHygiene cannot cancel it for you. Access is active only while the subscription is active (including any grace period the App Store or Google Play grants after a failed renewal) and reverts to free-tier-only if it lapses and isn't renewed.

8 The Only Network Calls This App Makes

PlainHygiene has no backend server. The only network traffic the app is capable of generating is an optional statistics-sync feature, off by default, that calls two public, free, unauthenticated APIs run by the World Health Organization and the World Bank — not by PlainHygiene's developer: the WHO Global Health Observatory (GHO) API (ghoapi.azureedge.net) and the World Bank Open Data API (api.worldbank.org). These calls fetch a small set of public indicators (such as the percentage of a country's population with basic handwashing facilities) so the app can show current statistics instead of the figures it shipped with. No cookie, device identifier, advertising ID, or any other identifier tied to you or your device is attached to these requests, and no data from your device is ever included in them.

This sync is off by default — you have to turn it on yourself in Settings, and can further restrict it to Wi-Fi only. If sync has never run, or the network is unavailable, the app simply shows the figures it shipped with; no feature depends on this call succeeding. Outside of this, the app makes no other network call — every other guide is bundled with the app and works in airplane mode. PlainHygiene does not operate, and will not operate, any company-run server for app functionality.

9 Educational Guidance, Not Medical Advice

PlainHygiene provides educational, informational hygiene guidance. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and no feature in PlainHygiene diagnoses a medical condition. If you think you may have a medical emergency, contact your local emergency services immediately.

10 Permissions

PlainHygiene requests as few permissions as possible. Depending on which features you use, it may request:

PlainHygiene does not request, and has no code path for, camera, microphone, photo library, contacts, SMS, or location access.

11 Sharing and Sale of Data

EqualInformation, LLC does not sell personal or sensitive user data. We do not share users' data with data brokers or for advertising purposes. Except for limited purchase-status handling through App Store or Google Play described in Section 7, the company does not intentionally transmit personal or sensitive PlainHygiene user data to its own servers or unrelated third parties.

12 Data Retention and Deletion

You can edit or delete a routine, reminder, bookmark, or profile directly in the app at any time. Uninstalling PlainHygiene — or clearing its storage in your device's system settings — removes all locally stored PlainHygiene data from your device, and there is no copy of it anywhere else for PlainHygiene's developer to separately retain or delete. Purchase/entitlement state may be restorable through App Store or Google Play for eligible purchases.

13 Backups

On Android, the app's local database — which holds the health-adjacent reminder data described in Section 3 — is explicitly excluded from Android's cloud backup and device-transfer mechanisms, even though ordinary app settings still restore normally on a new device. On iOS, PlainHygiene does not currently mark its local database as excluded from Apple's standard device backup — if you have iCloud Backup (or local encrypted backups) turned on at the iOS system level, your PlainHygiene data will be included the same way any other app's local data would be. This is Apple's platform-level backup feature acting on your own device backup, not PlainHygiene transmitting anything to its own developer or to any third party.

14 Children's Privacy

PlainHygiene is a general-audience hygiene-education reference app. It does not collect personal information from anyone — adult or child — since it has no account system, no sign-up, and no field anywhere in the app for an email address, phone number, or real name tied to an identity. The app is not specifically designed or marketed for use by children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has used the app and you have a concern, contact us using the details in Section 16.

15 Third-Party Content and Citations

The hygiene guidance inside PlainHygiene cites public health authorities — the World Health Organization (WHO), the CDC, UNICEF/JMP, USDA, OSHA, EPA, FDA, FEMA, the Sphere Association, CAWST, ICRC, WEDC/WaterAid, and the World Bank, among others — with links back to each organization's own original public source. Citing these sources is not the same as sharing your data with them: none of these organizations receives any information about you or your use of the app.

16 Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version on this page and revise the Effective Date above.
