Effective Date: September 14, 2026
PlainMoney is provided by EqualInformation, LLC. PlainMoney is a plain-language, fully offline personal-finance literacy app — budgeting, debt payoff, saving, paycheck decoding, tax estimates, and investing basics, worked out on your phone.

This Privacy Policy applies to the PlainMoney app (iOS bundle identifier: com.equalinformation.plainmoney.app; Android package name: com.equalinformation.plainmoney.app), available on the App Store and Google Play.
Nothing. PlainMoney does not require an account and does not collect your name, email, location, contacts, or any other personal information. It does not use analytics, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs of any kind.
Depending on how you use the app, PlainMoney may store the following locally, never transmitting it:
All of it lives only in a local database on your device (SwiftData on iOS, Room on Android). It is never uploaded anywhere, and we have no way to see it. Manage > Your data > Delete everything clears all of it, in one step, at any time.
PlainMoney's only network activity, other than store billing, is (1) refreshing public currency-exchange-rate files from the European Central Bank and the UN Treasury when you're online (or when you tap Refresh now) — a plain file download with no personal data of any kind attached to the request — and (2) only if you turn on Enable AI/SI/LLM and choose a downloadable model, a one-time download of that model's file (a static file of roughly 0.4 to 2 GB, hosted on Hugging Face), which no personal data accompanies. You can turn Keep exchange rates fresh off at any time in Manage, and every calculator and guide works fully offline either way.
Enable AI/SI/LLM is off by default and is never needed to use the app. When it is on, the Ask box answers using a model that runs entirely on your phone — either the phone's own built-in on-device model (Apple Foundation Models on supported iPhones, Google AICore on supported Android phones) or the downloaded model above. Nothing you type is ever sent anywhere, and no question or answer leaves your device.
Every tool and guide that cites an official source (IRS, SSA, Treasury, NYU Stern/Damodaran, and others depending on topic) can open that organization's own official page in an in-app browser, so you never fully leave the screen you were reading. That page is loaded directly from the organization's own website, subject to that organization's own privacy policy, not ours — PlainMoney doesn't see or log which sources you open. If the in-app viewer can't load a page, an explicit "Open in browser" button (never automatic) hands off to your device's own browser.
PlainMoney can read a spending amount from a receipt photo — either one you pick yourself through your device's system photo picker (it never accesses your photo library beyond the single photo you choose) or one you take with the camera only when you tap the receipt button (on Android this uses your phone's own camera app, so PlainMoney needs no camera permission). The same camera and photo options are available in the Ask box, where the text in a photo is read on-device and used as your search. Text or an amount is read entirely on-device (Apple/Google's on-device recognition); the photo is never uploaded or stored by the app. Speaking a spending amount out loud works the same way — on-device speech recognition turns what you say into a spending entry, and the audio never leaves your phone.
PlainMoney's budgeting, debt, saving, paycheck, tax-estimate, and investing-basics tools and guides all run entirely on-device. There is no account, no company-run server, and no user tracking.
PlainMoney does not use any analytics SDKs, crash reporters, advertising SDKs, or tracking tools. No data is sent to third-party analytics services.
PlainMoney explains how money concepts, calculations, and rules work; it never tells you what to buy, sell, pay first, borrow, or invest in. It is not a substitute for a licensed financial advisor, accountant, or attorney, and it never has access to your bank accounts, credit accounts, or real financial transactions — every number in the app is one you typed in yourself.
PlainMoney does not request access to your location or contacts. On Android, it requests only Internet (for the optional exchange-rate refresh and optional model download above) and Record Audio (only used when you actively choose to speak a spending amount, for on-device speech recognition). On iOS, it requests camera access only when you choose to take a receipt photo, photo-library access only when you choose to pick a receipt photo, and microphone/speech-recognition access only when you choose to speak an entry — both entirely on-device.
PlainMoney's everyday-use core — budgeting, spending and bill tracking, debt tools, and the full Safety Net — is free, permanently. PlainMoney Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription (PlainMoney Pro Monthly, billed monthly, $4.99 in the US; local prices vary) that unlocks specialized planning tools and guides for situations most people hit occasionally. It renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and you can manage or cancel it any time in your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings. Use of the app is also subject to Apple's standard Terms of Use (EULA). If you subscribe, your payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google. We never see or store your payment details — we only receive confirmation from the App Store or Google Play that an active subscription exists.
EqualInformation, LLC does not sell personal or sensitive user data. We do not share users' data with data brokers or for advertising purposes. The company does not intentionally transmit personal or sensitive PlainMoney user data to its own servers or unrelated third parties.
Manage > Your data offers Export everything as a file and Delete everything, complete and immediate, since all of it lives only on your device. Uninstalling PlainMoney removes all locally stored data. Neither action affects the bundled guide and tool library itself, which simply reinstalls with the app.
PlainMoney is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be included in the app and posted here, with the Effective Date above revised.
