Privacy Policy — PlainWater

Effective Date: August 19, 2026

1 Who We Are

PlainWater is provided by EqualInformation, LLC. PlainWater is an offline-first water-safety app — it helps you find, test, and make water safe to drink, and recognize and treat basic waterborne illness, entirely on your device.

2 Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the PlainWater app (iOS bundle identifier: com.equalinformation.plainwater.app; Android package name: com.equalinformation.plainwater.app). PlainWater is currently in development and has not yet been published to the App Store or Google Play.

3 Information PlainWater May Store

PlainWater is designed to keep everything on your device. Depending on how you use the app, PlainWater may store the following locally, never transmitting it:

PlainWater does not collect or transmit any of this data. All information remains on your device.

4 How We Use Information

PlainWater uses locally stored information to:

5 Local-First, Offline Design

PlainWater's core functionality — purification guidance, illness recognition, calculators, region-risk reference, and all reading material — is 100% on-device. It does not require an account, and it does not collect, transmit, or store your personal data on servers. The app is built to work fully offline, because the moments PlainWater matters most are often the moments infrastructure and connectivity have already failed.

6 No Analytics or Tracking, No Ads

PlainWater does not use advertising SDKs and does not sell or share your data for advertising. PlainWater does not run ads.

7 App Store and Google Play Billing

PlainWater offers optional in-app purchases — a one-time "PlainWater Pro" unlock and smaller à la carte feature packs, or an auto-renewing subscription (monthly or yearly) that unlocks the same content — using Apple App Store In-App Purchase (on iOS) or Google Play Billing (on Android). Apple or Google processes your payment and transaction information under their own respective policies. PlainWater may receive limited purchase-status or product information needed to unlock purchased content on your device. EqualInformation, LLC does not receive your full payment card number through PlainWater.

If you choose the subscription option: payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription automatically renews unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, at the price you agreed to. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple ID account settings or the Google Play app — PlainWater cannot cancel it for you. A subscription's unlock is active only while it's current (including any grace period the App Store or Google Play grants after a failed renewal); a one-time purchase, by contrast, unlocks its content permanently. Choosing between the two is entirely up to you — neither is required, and the app's free tier already covers every life-critical feature.

8 No Servers, By Design

PlainWater does not operate, and will not operate, any company-run server for app functionality — not now, and not as a future paid tier. Optional sync of your own data (such as a saved household plan or reminders) across your own devices uses only serverless, platform-native mechanisms — iCloud/CloudKit on iOS, your device's built-in backup on Android — which are part of the operating system you already use, not infrastructure PlainWater runs or can access. If you ever want the same data on both an iPhone and an Android device, that is a manual export/import you control yourself, never an automatic transfer through any server. This is a permanent architectural commitment, not a temporary v1 limitation.

9 Educational Guidance, Not Diagnosis or Certification

PlainWater provides educational, informational guidance on water safety and basic waterborne-illness recognition. Any visual, odor, or camera-based reference features in PlainWater are for educational comparison only — no feature in PlainWater diagnoses a medical condition or certifies that any water sample is safe to drink. When in doubt, PlainWater's guidance always errs toward treating or boiling water before drinking it, and toward seeking professional medical care for symptoms of illness. PlainWater is not a substitute for a laboratory water test or professional medical advice.

10 Permissions

PlainWater requests as few permissions as possible. Depending on which features you use, it may request:

PlainWater's core water-safety guidance does not require any of these permissions and works fully offline without them.

11 Sharing and Sale of Data

EqualInformation, LLC does not sell personal or sensitive user data. We do not share users' data with data brokers or for advertising purposes. Except for limited purchase-status handling through App Store or Google Play described in Section 7, the company does not intentionally transmit personal or sensitive PlainWater user data to its own servers or unrelated third parties.

12 Data Retention and Deletion

You can edit or delete your household water-safety plan, saved water-point locations, and preferences at any time from within the app. Uninstalling PlainWater removes all locally stored data from your device. Purchase/entitlement state may be restorable through App Store or Google Play for eligible purchases.

13 Security

PlainWater relies on iOS and Android platform protections and app sandboxing as part of its local-first design. However, no method of storage is completely secure, and the company cannot guarantee absolute security.

14 Children's Privacy

PlainWater is designed to provide water-safety guidance to the general public, including guidance relevant to caregivers of infants and children. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe information has been provided inappropriately, please contact the company.

15 Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version on this page and revise the Effective Date above.
