Privacy Policy — Zoel AI

Your private AI — running entirely on your device.

Last updated: June 19, 2026

Zoel AI is developed by EqualInformation, LLC. This Privacy Policy applies to the Zoel AI mobile application for iOS and Android, distributed under the bundle identifier com.equalinformation.zoelai.app, and to all pages that link to this policy.

The short version

Zoel AI is built privacy-first. By default it runs entirely on your device, and we do not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. There are no accounts, no advertising, and no third-party analytics or tracking, and we operate no servers that receive your conversations or your data. The one exception is optional cloud AI, which you turn on by adding your own API key — see “Optional cloud AI (Bring Your Own Key)” below for exactly what is shared and with whom.

What stays on your device

Microphone & voice

Zoel AI uses the microphone only when you start a voice interaction. Speech recognition is performed on your device; audio and transcripts are not sent to EqualInformation and are not stored on any server.

Downloading AI models

To keep the app small, AI models (the language model, speech model, and the semantic-search model) are downloaded by you on request — typically from a public model host such as Hugging Face. Those downloads happen directly between your device and the host under the host’s own terms; EqualInformation does not receive any information about what you download.

Optional cloud AI (Bring Your Own Key)

By default, Zoel AI runs entirely on your device and sends none of your conversation data anywhere. As an option, you may add your own API key for a third-party AI service. Supported services are OpenAI, Anthropic, Google (Gemini), Groq, and xAI (Grok), plus self-hosted servers (Ollama or a custom endpoint) that you configure.

This is strictly opt-in. Zoel AI requires your explicit, in-app consent before any provider is enabled, and that consent screen names the recipient and states what is shared. When a provider is enabled, the text of your prompts and your recent conversation context is sent directly from your device to that provider over an encrypted connection, solely to generate a response. Once sent, that data is handled under that provider’s own privacy policy and terms; we encourage you to review them. EqualInformation operates no servers in this path and never receives your API key, your prompts, or the responses. You can disable any provider at any time, which stops all further sharing.

We never share your Apple Health data, your API keys, or your local databases with any third-party AI service — health context, when used, is processed only by the on-device model. The providers you may enable, and their privacy policies, are:

We engage these providers only to process your request on your behalf, and we rely on their commitment to provide protection for your data that is comparable to the protections described in this policy. We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.

Optional internet enrichment

If you explicitly enable internet enrichment, Zoel AI may query public web sources to supplement an answer. These queries are anonymized — no personal data, account, or device identifier is attached. Enrichment is off unless you turn it on.

Purchases

Memberships (Zoel Select and Zoel Unlimited) are processed entirely by the Apple App Store and Google Play. EqualInformation receives only an anonymous entitlement status used to unlock content on your device — never your name, email, or payment details. Purchases are tied to your Apple ID or Google account, so no separate account is needed.

Children’s privacy

Zoel AI is not directed to children under 13, and because the app collects no personal data from anyone, it collects none from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date.
